New adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's novel. A young newlywed arrives at her husband's imposing family estate on a windswept English coast and finds herself battling the shadow of his first wife, Rebecca. Inspired by a true story, it tugs unashamedly at the heartstrings and an excellent ensemble plus a little grit ensure that it properly earns its tears. May the situation in Europe is worsening, and Britain needs a new prime minister. The latest in a very long line of recent Churchill performances is by far the best: Oldman is virtually unrecognisable and attacks the part with relish, with Scott Thomas excellent as his wife Clemmie.

Kristin Scott Thomas - IMDb
Even the most glamorous actors are usually far more ordinary in the flesh. Not Kristin Scott Thomas. The year-old is just as remarkable in real life as she is on screen. Through her year career, Scott Thomas has become a master of restraint. She was less nefarious, though no less adulterous, in The English Patient , which earned her an Oscar nod, and after a brief fling with blockbusters in the form of Mission: Impossible also , she retreated into the arms of French cinema. Her role in Military Wives — a charming tear-jerker loosely based on the real-life Military Wives Choir — certainly fits that description. But she is grieving, too.
Kristin Scott Thomas: ‘It’s weird when you’re 38 and your love interest is 60’
I find it difficult to imagine she ever endured such a phase. We are in a noisy cafe, Kristin looking ravishing in post-shoot hair and make-up, Dior camo messenger bag at her feet. She is famously chic, an Englishwoman so stylish she can pass as Parisian.
She also holds French citizenship. Scott Thomas was born in Redruth , Cornwall. On leaving school in , [8] she moved to Hampstead , London, and worked in a department store. Rather than learn Romanian for the part, she read her lines phonetically.
